Frequently Asked Questions

Who does The Colony Chamber of Commerce Duck Derby benefit?

We’ve listed the non-profit partners who will benefit from the proceeds of  The Grand Duck Derby throughout our website.

How does The Grand Duck Derby work?

When you purchase a duck or several ducks, your information is entered into our Duckpond database.

You can purchase a duck: online, via the mail, at The Grand Duck Derby booth, from a non-profit partner or in a sponsoring business.

Once all ducks are purchased, we make sure all duck identifier numbers are shuffled. Then, the Duckpond automatically assigns the number of ducks you have purchased next to badge numbers. You’ll have a unique badge number for each duck you purchase.

How do my ducks get in the water?

During race day, the Duck Squad handles each duck with care, launching the ducks into the lagoon on the northside of the Grandscape Lagoon at 11 a.m. on September 4. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m., we strongly suggest that you arrive early to park and enjoy the fun atmosphere.

How will I know which duck is “my duck”?

The Duckpond Database keeps track, and the Duck Squad staff will notify the winner(s).

What if you have 32,000 purchased Ducks but you have 35,000 Ducks with Badge Numbers on Duck Race Day?

If all ducks have not been purchased by race day, anyone can purchase a remaining duck(s) (chosen at random) until an hour before the race begins, as long as the race is not sold out.

When and where is The Grand Duck Derby and what does it cost to participate?

The Colony Chamber of Commerce Grand Duck Derby will take place on September 4, 2022, at The Grandscape lagoon located at 5752 Grandscape Blvd. The Colony, Texas, 75056. 4th place – $1,000
5th place – $750

How will I know if my duck wins?

The Colony Chamber of Commerce will announce the winning ducks on September 4 at Topo Chico Hard Seltzer Grandscape Stage. You do not need to be present to win. Winners will be notified via the contact information provided at the time of purchase.

Are they real ducks or rubber ducks?

Dash, Splash and their friends are rubber ducks!
